Data Killers Celebrates 8 Years of Business

Turtle Wings / Data Killers celebrates 8 years of business on Friday, March 1st.  The company, which was started at a kitchen table with the owner and one employee, has grown into a nationwide business serving the entire United States for on-site data destruction.  Turtle Wings, a Maryland corporation, was originally founded as an environmental services company specializing in electronics recycling.  Data Killers, the data destruction arm of Turtle Wings, was started about a year after the company’s inception.

The data destruction component was started to meet customer’s demands to shred hard drives.  It began with a plant based shredder in our Maryland headquarters which is capable of shredding over 1000 pounds of metal per hour.  From there, Data Killers added mobile hard drive shredding in the Washington DC, Northern Virginia and Maryland areas.  As the demand grew across the country, we launched a fleet of hard drive shredding trucks nationwide which are capable of shredding any type of media down to 10mm. Shred size is extremely important in protecting data.

In the last few years, Data Killers has become the leaders in on-site destruction of classified materials as our trucks are outfitted with NSA approved degaussers.  Our customers range from the federal government and large Fortune 500 companies to smaller companies who frequently utilize our secure shipment options.  Due to our nationwide deployment capabilities, we often perform on-site shredding for companies and agencies with offices scattered across the country.

In keeping with our original mission of providing globally responsible electronics recycling, Turtle Wings / Data Killers is ISO 14001 certified and R2 certified which means that all of our downstream vendors have been thoroughly vetted. R2 certification is one of only two certifications recognized by the federal government for electronics recycling.  Turtle Wings also holds several government contracts and BPA’s for electronics recycling and data destruction. Our status as a HUBZoned, WBENC certified company offers our customers a chance to use an accredited small company with supplier diversity credentials.

We attribute our success in the last eight years to our fabulous customers who have loyally spread the word about our services and used us repeatedly.  We pledge to continue to provide top-notch customer service in the coming years.  We look forward to our 9th year in business!
